Expressing aggression has become more difficult. Symptoms and adjustment disorders caused by suppressing one’s aggression have been rising since 2010. However, to live an enriched life, it is necessary to sublimate the negative energy that rises within us. Speaking up for oneself, making requests appropriately and venting help one’s relationships with others and the environment continue favorably.
This project focuses on the level of emotional fitness in the expression of aggression, using “venting” behavior as a main example. For example, behaviors of going online to check “flaming” comments can help us vent our own aggression without actually expressing it outwardly, because witnessing another’s aggression can let one feel like our own aggression is being expressed. Such behaviors that healthily expressed aggression are called “venting”. This project investigates the mechanisms behind expressing aggressive energy and how it is controlled.
