This planned project is based on the research results of a project entitled “Artistic Expression of People with Visual Impairment,” which was carried out in the 2018 academic year. This year, we intend to develop the current state and potentials of various art expressions, which do not belong to the institutional world of “art,” from a widened social perspective, without limiting the surveyed people to the visually impaired. The purpose of this project is to investigate those who are engaged in art expression <outside> of formal art education, the art community and art market, including the physically and mentally disabled and the elderly, and exploring the meaning of their activities.

This will clarify problems of such a concept as “social inclusion by art,” which is often promoted as a cultural policy, and will contribute to the construction of a new theory of art based on an extended understanding of art.
