Call for Application Forms for Collaborative Research Projects at Kyoto University’s Kokoro Research Center AY2021
The Kokoro Research Center (“the KRC”) is now accepting applications for research projects to be carried out in collaboration with the faculty at the KRC in the 2021 academic year. The KRC promotes scientific research in psychology, neurophysiology, cognitive science, cultural studies, social sciences, and the humanities. This grant can be used to pay for expenses related to travel to Japan, residency in Japan, and conducting research in Japan to support the collaborative research. Additionally, the KRC can provide research resources, such as shared office space. Please apply to this project with a research topic to be conducted in collaboration with a faculty member of the KRC. (Applicants can submit only one application.)

a. Researchers currently employed at a university or research institute outside of Japan.
b. Graduate students/post-docs who currently belong to a university or research institute outside of Japan. Applicants should hold a doctorate degree, or be scheduled to receive a doctorate degree by the time the research project goes into effect (by March 2021 or by the starting date of the collaborative project if the project will start after March 2021).
2. Project Period
From April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022, with the research visit to Japan to take place at some point during the collaboration / within the project period (if you wish to implement a collaborative research project that will go beyond a one-year period, please consult with the faculty at the KRC in advance. Projects may be extended for up to three years.)
3. Research Funds
Up to 500,000 JPY
Research funds can be used to pay for expenses related to travel to Japan from one’s home institution, residency in Kyoto (hotel or on-campus accommodation), and research activities (paying for RAs and participants, purchasing materials) within Japan. For research expenses incurred outside of Japan, the collaborating faculty at KRC should be informed in advance as he/she will process the payment. Also, please note that research funds are managed by the faculty members at the KRC and are not distributed directly to the applicant.
4. How to Apply
All applicants must fill in the application form (Form 1) and submit it to the office at the KRC (see address below).
The KRC will not approve multiple applications by the same applicant.

7. Selection and Notification of Results
Decisions will be made by the KRC in March 2021. Applicants will be notified of the results via e-mail by March 31, 2021.
Please note that the documents for unsuccessful applications cannot be returned.
8. Handling of Research Results
The research results of the KRC’s collaborative research projects are covered under the “Kyoto University Intellectual Property Policy”. Any inventions resulting from collaborative research projects (e.g., patents, utility model rights, design rights, trademark rights) will require that a contract be signed with Kyoto University.

9. Research Reports
(1) Annual research reports must be submitted by the end of April of the following academic year.
(2) Research results will be published on the KRC’s website.
(3) If a paper or publication related to the collaborative research project is published, please submit a citation, listing the paper’s title, author names, affiliation, name of journal/publication, journal volume, year of publication and page numbers (start to end) to the KRC office (firstname.lastname@example.org).
(4) When publishing research results in papers, please acknowledge “The Kokoro Research Center Collaborative Research Project” as a funding source.
10. Termination of Grant
If any information submitted in the application is falsified or if a collaborative or joint researcher fails to cooperate sufficiently after acceptance of their application, the KRC may cancel the research project or rescind the hosting of a collaborative or joint researcher.
