Since the last half of the 90s, Japanese society has entered an era of practically zero growth. Considering the population decline and advancement of aging, it is time to either plan new social models or change our value consciousness and principles away from previous models that were centered around economic expansion and growth.
In these circumstances, discussions and policies involving an index of development to replace GDP and a “happiness index” have been discussed. As a result, the Gross Arakawa Happiness (GAH) and “Happiness League” (Prof. Hiroi is one of its advisors) have been developed.
This research aims to theoretically and empirically investigate new social visions, their values and how to exist in the post-growth era that Japan is experiencing.
