fMRI Experiential Seminar 2017

The “fMRI Experiential Seminar 2017” was held at Kokoro Research Center’s MRI Laboratory on August 28-29, 2017.
These fMRI seminars have been held annually since 2013 to provide students and researchers at Kyoto University an opportunity to learn first-hand about functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Eleven students majoring in education, human environmental studies and medicine participated in this year’s seminar.
Dr. Nobuhito Abe, Dr. Yoshiyuki Ueda, Dr. Kuniaki Yanagisawa and Dr. Kohei Asano organized the seminar and gave lectures instructing how to use fMRI in experimental research.  The seminar attendees learned the basics of fMRI and functional brain imaging studies, and were given the opportunity to use a fMRI machine themselves to analyze what part of the brain is active when a hand is in motion. The seminar concluded with discussions and a Q&A session.
