人は同じものを見ても、同じとらえ方をしているとは限りません。小学校教員として、様々な子どもの個性に触れる中で、認知の個人差に関心を持ってきました。人の視覚に関わる認知特性と脳の関係について、脳機能・脳構造画像を用いて研究を行っています。最近は、発達性ディスレクシアの読字障害を生む脳のメカニズムについて研究をしています。
