Management and Operation

Led by Nobuhito Abe, Associate Professor specializing in cognitive neuroscience, a group of research, technical, and administrative staff is responsible for the management and operation of the KRC MRI Facilities. The Steering Committee, Working-Level Committee, and Safety Committee, composed of KRC researchers and researchers from different departments of Kyoto University have also been established. While the Steering Committee focuses on the general management policies of the MRI Facilities, the Working-Level Committee holds regular discussions regarding facility-use policies. The Safety Committee is involved in formulating policies and guidelines for KRC MRI Facilities safety management and conducts safety evaluations of all proposed studies.

The guidelines have been established by the KRC MRI Facilities and are available online for reference. The guidelines explain the rules and processes all MRI users must follow. After being approved following research ethics evaluation, a user is required to submit a safety evaluation application regarding their research project to our Secretariat. All applications are processed swiftly by the Safety Committee, in their commitment to realize smooth shared-use of the MRI Facilities. All users are mandated to attend the safety training session before using the MRI Facilities and are thoroughly instructed to take utmost care regarding MRI safety during experiments.
