An article based on an interview with Prof. Toshio Kawai entitled “A Snake Makes a Millionaire!? ‘Your Dream’ Analysis Notes” was published in the business magazine PRESIDENT (September 13, 2019 issue) by PRESIDENT Inc.

The September 13, 2019 issue includes a special feature article on sleep. In an interview with a reporter for the magazine, Prof. Kawai introduces his perspective on how to understand the meaning of dreams based on clinical psychological theories and the practice of psychotherapy. For example, the key to understanding a dream is to look at its characteristic “storytelling” and analyze how it unfolded. He also said that negative dreams may have good meanings for the dreamer.

In the latter part of the interview, he states that the meaning of dreams is extremely ambiguous, and that it is important not to propose an unambiguous meaning to a certain type of dream because its context will differ depending on the dreamer. Prof. Kawai then discusses some typical dream situations and introduces the meaning of each dream that often appears in psychotherapy.
