Students from Shiga Prefectural Zeze High School visited the KRC to hear a lecture by Associate Professor Wataru Sato on September 13, 2019. Zeze High School is developing a “super-science high school project” with the aim of cultivating human resources in international science and technology.
In the lecture, entitled “The emotional brain: the role of the amygdala in emotion”, Prof. Sato explained how emotions such as fear and pleasure are important mental functions that affect one’s life, and how brain circuits centered in the amygdala generate emotions quickly and unconsciously. The students asked questions that indicated a deep understanding of the material and that were comparable to those posed by researchers.
