This project aims to investigate the social infrastructure of Japanese culture by focusing on its cultural multilayers. The first layer is “Japanese culture” and the second layer is “group culture”. First, in a country that values social conformity as a source of happiness, commonalities and differences found in organizational cultures at the second layer (group level) and conflicts between the two layers will be examined. Second, we will analyze individual-level factors (the recognition of social relations) and macro-level factors (organizational culture) to investigate what mechanisms underlie the effects that culture has on kokoro works.
This project clarifies what kind of social relationships facilitate happiness within Japanese corporations, presents knowledge that promotes the well-being of kokoro and develops new theories in social science.
