Professor Toshio Kawai appeared on the NHK Kansai news program
Prof. Toshio Kawai appeared on the NHK Kansai news program. His comments are posted on the NHK NEWS WEB along with the broadcasted news video.
As an expert in clinical psychology, Prof. Kawai analyzed the current situation in Japan in regard to the spread of the new coronavirus infection and proposed a new way of life in the future.
Unlike other countries which mandate fines and arrests for non-compliance under the stringent lockdowns, Japanese people appear to be more compliant in following the government’s request for self-restraint. Prof. Kawai pointed out that the current situation in Japan may reflect their traditional spirit of mutual cooperation. Even so, there is a limit to self-restraint in this situation, both economically and spiritually. Therefore, he mentioned that we need to create new ways of life to coexist with the new coronavirus, for example, new ideas for relaxation and hobbies.
