Mental processing, in which the mind draws representations of objects in the environment and applies spatial operations such as rotation to those representations, is a type of intelligence called spatial thinking. This ability supports a variety of everyday cognitive activities, including navigation and tool use. This study aims to elucidate the cognitive mechanisms behind spatial thinking ability by using behavioral experiments, functional neuroimaging, and mathematical and statistical modeling techniques.
