Augmented Reality (Tera Platform AR Ver1.0) Developed by Associate Professor Kumagai et al. and the Buddhist Version of the Metaverse Concept (Teraverse) Have Been Featured in ABC News by Asahi Broadcasting

Augmented reality (AR) called “Tera Platform AR Ver1.0,” which was co-developed by Associate Professor Seiji Kumagai and Toshikazu Furuya (CEO, Teraverse Co., Ltd.), was featured in the ABC News by Asahi Broadcasting on September 6, 2022 (“AI Buddha” Answers to Your Worries!? “Teraverse,” An Integration of Buddhism and the Metaverse, Being Developed by a Research Team in Kyoto University). 

This technology was jointly developed by Associate Professor Kumagai and CEO Furuya using AR and AI. An avatar of the AI-based chatbot “Buddhabot” appeared on the smartphone’s camera screen to respond to questions or worries posed by users, based on Buddhist scriptures that have been machine-learned in advance. Although there are no plans to open it to the public at this time, Associate Professor Kumagai and his team plan to use artificial intelligence and AR/VR to develop the “Teraverse,” a Buddhist virtual world that combines Buddhism and Metaverse technology.
