Warning about false report re: Malaysian elections

In light of a recent document regarding Malaysian elections that has been falsely attributed to Professor Yukiko Uchida of the Kyoto University Institute for the Future of Human Society, we are issuing the following statement.

We have recently become aware, through inquiries from residents of Malaysia, of a document circulating on various social media platforms entitled “The Impact of Social Behavior on the Election of Ineffective Leaders Among Malays.” This document, which makes several unfounded claims regarding elections and voting behavior in Malaysia, has been FALSELY attributed to Professor Uchida. We wish to emphasize that this document was NOT written by Professor Uchida, and that Professor Uchida has NEVER conducted any research or made any statements related to this topic. We deeply regret that such an article was written using the name of a professor from Kyoto University, and are currently trying to identify the source of this misinformation.
We strongly condemn the individuals or groups responsible for this malicious act, and ask that everyone who has read the article in question refrain from further disseminating it or its claims.

The spread of misinformation or “fake news” is not only harmful, but also undermines the integrity of academic work and discourse. We remain committed to the principles of truth and accuracy in all of our communications, and we urge all readers to support these principles as well.
