An article by Prof. Hiroshi Yoshioka, “On William Kentridge’s production of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute)” was published in the June edition of The Atre, the newsletter of the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
Prof. Yoshioka extensively discussed the producer, William Kentridge, a world-renowned artist from South Africa.
Before gaining international recognition for his work in animation, Kentridge earned a degree in politics, African studies, studied mime and drama, worked in theaterical products and acted. His involvement in opera productions has attracted artists as well as music fans. Prof. Yoshioka encourages us to pay attention to Kentridge’s drastic reinterpretation of “The Magic Flute”.
