A book by Prof. Yoshinori Hiroi, entitled ‘The Human History of Nothingness and Consciousness: Where Are We Going?’, has been published by Toyo Keizai Inc. (Japanese Version Only)
In this book, Prof. Hiroi considers the present age as the “third steady-state” era in human history, in light of the simultaneous emergence of themes related to the “finitude of individual life” and “finitude of the global environment.” The former “finitude” is represented by the technology for immortality, and the latter by the emergence of novel coronavirus and climate changes. Prof. Hiroi then envisions the values and ideals that will replace “unlimited expansion and growth” and discusses the view of life and death in the age of super aging and post-growth, based on the perspective of “gradation of life and death.”
