Prof. Yoshinori Hiroi Presented Report and Served as Coordinator at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Academic Society, Shasou Gakkai (June 11, 2022, at Chichibu Shrine)
Prof. Yoshinori Hiroi presented a report and served as a coordinator at the 2022 annual meeting of the academic society, Shasou Gakkai (June 11, 2022, at Chichibu Shrine).
Shasou Gakkai is a non-profit organization that conducts interdisciplinary research on “the groves of village shrines (鎮守の森).” This academic society, which was established in 2002, conducts research that breaks down the boundaries between related fields of study (folklore, history, plant ecology, urban planning, etc.). It aims to create a new academic discipline closely tied to the local community, and to preserve and develop the groves of village shrines (President: Minoru Sonoda, Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University and Chief Priest of Chichibu Shrine).
In addition to research presentations, the 2022 annual meeting held a symposium entitled, “Regional Communities Woven by the Groves of Village Shrines.” At the symposium, following a keynote speech by President Minoru Sonoda, Prof. Hiroi and three panelists (Akiharu Kamihogi, Professor Emeritus of Osaka Prefecture University, Sakae Mogi, Professor Emeritus, Kokugakuin University, and Tomoki Takada, Associate Professor, University of Hyogo) presented their reports. Then, a lively Q&A session was held, and Prof. Hiroi served as a coordinator.
