Prof. Sakiko Yoshikawa planned the open lecture “Applying IT Technology to Nursing Care: The Present and Future of Care Informatics”, which was hosted by the Kyoto Learning Center of the Open University of Japan. Additionally, she gave a lecture at this meeting, which took place on September 8, 2019 at Campus Plaza Kyoto.

Three lectures were held at this meeting: “Using Informatics Approaches to Reveal ‘Tender Care’” by Associate Professor Atsushi Nakazawa (Department of Intelligence Science and Technology, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University), “Making Nursing Care Robots Partners for Better Care: Connecting with IT Technology to Improve the Quality of Care and Self-Reliance Support” by Yuka Moriyama (Physical Therapist, Division Manager of the Rehabilitation Department, “The Hiuna” Health Facilities for the Aged, which is run by the Misasakai Social Welfare Corporation), and “The Spirit of Care Harnessing Technology: A Link between Advanced Technology and Nursing Care” by Professor Sakiko Yoshikawa (Kokoro Research Center, Kyoto University).

The three speakers then answered questions from the audience and discussed what will be necessary to make the most of cutting-edge IT technology in the practice of care at hospitals and nursing homes. Each discussed these issues from the viewpoint of their respective specialties of informatics, psychology, and care practice.
